How are the returned missionaries?? -- Sister Beer, Sister Woo, Sister Chan, Sister Lee!

Caitlin,

Cheryl,

Anni,

Jenny,

The Chinatown Ward is the only Chinese speaking ward in the boundaries of New York New York North Mission, so the full time missionaries that are called to speak Chinese will spend most of their mission in this ward. Chinatown becomes their home. Even after they finish their mission, memories of Chinatown will always hold a place deep in their hearts.
In Provo, Utah, some of the returned sister missionaries who are studying in BYU gathered together again. They became roommates once again after they developed a strong relationship between each other on their mission. So, what do their post-mission lives look like? As an editor of the blog, I invited them to write something to tell us about their recent lives as normal members of church, how do they develop their faith in the gospel, and how do they increase their spirituality?
Alright, I think I have been talking too much, let's see what the sisters said:

Sister Caitlin Beer:

Hello Chinatown Ward! I am so happy to be writing you. My life has changed a lot since I returned home.  I have gone back to school, started working as a teaching assistant at my university, and have met an awesome man who I will marry in December.  Throughout all of this, I have been incredibly grateful for the gospel of Jesus Christ and what it has done for me.  In December, my fiancé and I will go to the temple and being sealed for time and all eternity.  I am so grateful for the ordinances and covenants we make as followers of Christ.  I am so happy because I know that Heavenly Father loves me and will support me in keeping His commandments!  As I read scriptures, pray daily, attend church, and go to the temple I feel the Spirit’s presence in my life, and my Heavenly Father’s love for me.

I know that these are not exclusive blessings. Heavenly Father blesses all of His children as we keep His commandments!

Sister Cheryl Woo:

Hello my Chinatown friends! It’s been more than a year since I’ve been in Chinatown, but I still think about everyone often. I’m currently still going to school at BYU, so my days consist of mostly waking up, going to school, going home, going to bed, repeat. It may not seem like anything exciting, but I love it! Every day is a new opportunity for me to learn something and do something new. One of the things I’m working on in school is building a car, and building a small airplane that can fly by itself!:)

When life is busy, I have found that it is hard to stay focused on doing things that will truly make me better and happier because I get lost in the minutiae of daily life, working, cleaning, laundry, appointments, working some more 等等。

That is why I need the Lord in my life. When I converse with my Heavenly Father and think about what I need to say to him, He directs my thoughts back to the things which are most important to me. Home, family, friends, living the gospel. This has always been such a source of catharsis for me, and it is the most wonderful way to begin and end my day. So, don’t forget to pray!

“Look unto God with firmness of mind, and pray unto him with exceeding faith, and he will console you in your afflictions, and he will plead your cause..” Jacob 3:1

Sister Anni Chen:

After coming back from New York 6 month ago,  my life has been back to normal, but fulfilling.

During the 2 months I was in HongKong, I happily got together with my family again. I remind myself everyday to treasure the time I have to be with my family. No matter what we do, whether it be eating, chatting, shopping or resting, being together is a blessing for me. Every week, the thing which I look forward to the most is to go to church, which is a familiar place for my family members and I to learn and worship. I also received a calling to be a primary teacher. It really takes a lot of patience and charity to teach two cute, active boys.

I have learned a lot in these past couple months at college. Don't forget that there is reason for everything that happens. If we are willing to devote ourselves to God, we will understand that Heavenly Father has prepared a way for all of us to face all of the different challenges in our lives. If we take different approaches to the challenges we have, we will get different results. It doesn't matter whether we are working in a restaurant, babysitting, looking for a job, or studying in school, all of us may have a colorful and fulfilling life as long as we try our best to do what God wants us to do. This kind of fulfilling and peace wouldn't come from ourselves, but from the Holy Ghost.

Every single one of us either has or had dreams of great things we want to achieve. It really feels great to strive and seek for the things we want. But, we need understand what our priorities are. The greatest commandment that God gives us is "love thy God". We need to make God our priority. We may not be able to fulfill this commandment all at once, but we can do it step by step. For example: Prayer, Scripture study, service, and going to the temple are some of my priorities in my life right now.

People are happiest when they have a sense of gratitude. I am grateful for everything I have.

Sister Jenny Lee:

The few months that I’ve been home have gone by really fast. I still miss Chinatown every single day. Right now I am studying Civil Engineering at BYU so I spend a lot of my time doing homework and studying. When I’m not doing school work, I go climbing or hang out with other Chinatown missionaries.

On my mission, I learned a lot of good habits. Even though I’ve returned from my mission, I need to continue these habits and continue strengthening my testimony and faith. Sometimes I feel like I don’t have enough time to do the things that will strengthen my faith. This last conference, I really liked what Richard G. Scott said, “Don’t yield to Satan’s lie that you don’t have time to study the scriptures. Choose to take time to study them. Feasting on the word of God each day is more important than sleep, school, work, television shows, video games, or social media. You may need to reorganize your priorities to provide time for the study of the word of God. If so, do it!”

Even when school gets very busy, I make it a priority to read my scriptures first thing in the morning, pray, and attend the temple weekly. I have learned that we will ALWAYS have time to do those simple things such as reading scriptures and praying daily, and attending the temples if we make the time. As I have done these things I have seen so many blessings. I am doing better at school and I find that I have the faith and strength to face everyday challenges. When I put the gospel first, Heavenly Father always makes sure I have enough time to do other things that I want to do. Most importantly, I am happier and I feel the love that our Heavenly Father has for me. I am so grateful for the examples of the Chinatown members and I miss you all every much!
